Regenerative medicine actually began decades ago with the first bone marrow transplant. In more recent years, however, the field has rapidly advanced to produce many different regenerative treatments that can accelerate healing in a wide range of foot and ankle problems. Board-certified podiatrists offer safe and effective regenerative injection treatments, such as amniotic fluid and stem cell injections. To find out if your foot or ankle problem could improve with regenerative therapies, call the main office in West Palm Beach, Florida, or book an appointment online.

Regenerative Medicine Q & A

How do Stem Cells regenerate damaged tissues?

Stem cells have a unique ability to self-replicate and to produce new cells that can develop into many other different types of cells. Stem cells can migrate to the site of an injury, where they regenerate the cells needed to repair the damaged tissues.

There are several types of adult stem cells live all throughout the body. One type, called mesenchymal stem cells, are used for treating foot and ankle conditions because they can regenerate new cartilage, collagen, ligament, muscle, tendon, and skin cells.

Mesenchymal stem cells can come from several different sources. They are abundant and easy to harvest from your own body fat or bone marrow. These cells are also found in the amniotic fluid that healthy mothers freely donate after delivering a healthy baby.

Concentrated stem cells can treat foot and ankle problems when foot doctors inject a concentrated amount at the site of injury or chronic disease.

What foot conditions are treated with Regenerative Medicine?

Our Podiatrists may recommend a Regenerative Medicine injection for any type of cartilage, joint, ligament, muscle, or tendon problem that doesn’t respond well to conservative therapy.

Some conditions that respond well to amniotic fluid and stem cell injections include:

  • Arthritis

  • Heel spurs

  • Ligament and tendon tears

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Sprains

  • Tendinitis

Regenerative injection treatments are very beneficial for chronic, slow-healing conditions. Additionally, amniotic fluid and stem cells can help your body’s own natural healing ability when it is overwhelmed by severe injuries.
